BABAR experiment aims at the study of CP violation and heavy flavour physics at PEPII, the asymmetric B factory located at SLAC.
Naples group is involved in the project and construction of muon and neutral hadron detector, the Instrumented Flux Return (IFR).
The Instrumented Flux Return provides muon identification down to momenta of 500 MeV/c and neutral hadron detection, in particular K0L. The magnet yoke is segmented in 18 or 19 iron layers of different thickness, for a total of about 65 cm of iron. The gaps are filled with Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) whose signals are read from two planes of strips running in orthogonal ridections, thus providing two-dimensional information.
